November 27, 2023
In response to the recent incident where a train conductor in Queens was targeted with the dangerous act of having ice thrown at her, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. stated, "This was not an innocent prank. Such reckless behavior could have resulted in serious injuries. This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of our public transportation workers and the potential consequences of such thoughtless actions. It is imperative that we denounce these acts of misconduct and work towards ensuring the safety and security of our public servants who serve our communities.
The NYPD reports that the incident occurred on November 18, 2023, around 2 p.m. when three people threw ice at the 49-year-old, female conductor near the Woodhaven Boulevard station in Queens. She was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. CBS News cites an MTA security report that states 110 transit workers were assaulted in the first eight months of 2023.
