Senator Helming and Republican Colleagues Urge Governor to Repeal Electric Bus Mandates or Fully Fund The Conversion
December 14, 2023
Responding to concerns raised by school leaders in her district, Senator Helming has called on the Governor to rescind the electric bus mandate for public schools or commit to fully funding the conversion. The letter she and her Senate Republican colleagues sent to the Governor is attached above.
The electric bus mandates were adopted to help the state meet the lower emissions targets of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). The requirements are that new school bus purchases be zero emission by 2027 and all school buses in operation be zero emission by 2035.
Senator Helming said, "Our school districts are raising the alarm about this unfunded state mandate and its costs. We must listen to them. I will continue to advocate to protect our schools and local property taxpayers."
