CANZONERI-FITZPATRICK RESPONDS TO STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS

ALBANY, NY – Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick released the following statement in response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State Address:

“Earlier this week, I joined my colleagues from the State Senate Republican Conference to unveil an agenda that focuses on ensuring our State is safer, stronger, more affordable and more free for all New Yorkers.

Yesterday, Governor Hochul unveiled her own agenda. Unfortunately, unlike the proposal we put forward, the Governor’s agenda included proposals that will further increase utility costs which are already burdensome for Long Island residents.  In addition, the Governor failed to address how to rein in out-of-control State spending that has skyrocketed under one-party control.

However, I was encouraged by the Governor's commitment of $1 billion to address the mental health crisis, and her promises to focus on combating the opioid epidemic, reversing the trend of outmigration, bolstering access to affordable child care and rolling back the State’s failed bail ‘reforms.’ Many of the specifics remain to be seen, which is why I am committed to working with my colleagues in the State Legislature–on both sides of the aisle–to ensure these remain priorities during the upcoming Legislative Session and budget season, and that the needs of New Yorkers are put first.

Residents of the 9th Senate District sent me to Albany to ensure their voices are heard and that the State’s priorities reflect their priorities. I am committed to that effort, and I would encourage members of our community to reach out to me to share their priorities, concerns and questions related to state-government.”
