Grant will support purchasing of a new street sweeper

 

State Senator Christopher J. Ryan (SD-50) today announced $250,000 in state funding to the Town of Geddes for the purchasing of a new street sweeper. This new model, the Tymoco Model 600 Regenerative Air Sweeper, will significantly improve the Town’s ability to keep roadways clean, clear storm drains, and protect critical infrastructure, directly benefiting the health, safety, and quality of life of Geddes residents.
 
“Keeping our towns and streets clean is one of the most basic functions of local governments,” said Senator Ryan. “Street sweepers keep debris out of our storm drains, reduce flooding, improve air quality, and make our roads safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. But with inflation driving up the cost of equipment, local governments are under pressure. I’m proud to deliver funding that helps Geddes modernize its fleet without placing additional strain on taxpayers.”
 
The new regenerative air sweeper will replace outdated equipment that has grown increasingly costly to maintain and can no longer meet the demands of modern street and stormwater management. The upgraded model will reduce downtime, cut repair costs, and allow the Town to deploy staff time more efficiently—ensuring roadways and drainage systems are maintained proactively.
 
Town of Geddes Supervisor Susan LaFex said, “The Town of Geddes is extremely grateful for Senator Ryan’s financial support in the purchase of this significant highway equipment purchase.  The impact of street sweeper services throughout our community is greatly appreciated and noticed by our residents.  It takes the whole of a community to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing places to house residents, raise families, support businesses and welcome others.  Without the Senator’s financial support in purchasing this equipment, our town would not be able to underwrite the equipment needed to provide this service.”
