“Affordability is a core concern for all New Yorkers as costs of everyday life, from groceries to insurance, are expected to continue to rise with the dramatic cuts to essential services and programs at the federal level. As we attempt to tackle these issues and prepare for the fiscal impact of the cuts, one thing remains clear - utility bills are too high.

Although there may be costs associated with updating and modernizing infrastructure, we cannot allow them to be recuperated by ratepayers–especially as federal cuts continue to jeopardize energy assistance programs like HEAP, all while private utility companies continue to grow their bottom line. The Public Service Commission’s decision to raise utility rates over the next three years by up to $50 more a month is far too much for hard working ratepayers just trying to get by. I’ll continue to fight for greater accountability and transparency in the rate setting process to stop this blatant price gouging.”
