(Ithaca, NY) – Today, Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) announced that she has secured $250,000 in state funding for the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca. The funding was awarded through the New York Senate’s Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability, and Technology Program (CREST) and will aid in renovations for the historic theatre.

Since 1975, the Hangar Theatre has evolved from a converted airport hangar into a nationally recognized cultural institution and a vital incubator for emerging talent. Fueled by strong community support, the Hangar has grown into more than just a theatre. Each year, it presents a diverse lineup of professional productions, educational programs for young people, and performances that reflect and engage the Ithaca community. The Hangar continues to inspire audiences of all ages while shaping the next generation of theatre professionals.

“I’m proud to have secured $250,000 in state funding to support renovations for the Hangar Theatre,” said Senator Lea Webb. “This investment reflects our commitment to strengthening the institutions that make our communities so special. The Hangar Theatre is a treasure in our region, and I’m committed to supporting its role as a hub for creativity, education, and connection.”

“The Hangar Theatre has served the Ithaca-area community for fifty years, by providing top-notch arts education programs, exceptional performance series, and an inclusive home for the arts in Tompkins County,” said Producing Artistic Director Shirley Serotsky. “Keeping our facilities and grounds current, hospitable, and up-to-date is such an important aspect of this; we want both the home for the arts and the programming within it to be memorable and welcoming. The capital improvements funded by the CREST grant will help us take much-needed steps towards making both the indoor and outdoor spaces more comfortable, accessible, and beautiful. We are so grateful to Senator Webb and her team for shepherding us through the CREST grant process, and for the incredible amount of time and energy they have given to this cause. We couldn’t be more thrilled and excited to break ground on this roster of projects!”
