Senator Mark Walczyk supports President Trump's recent executive order, which temporarily halts the heavy-duty electric truck mandates. The Trump Administration’s stance acknowledges that states should not impose heavy regulations exceeding federal guidance from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This has been a point of contention as New York Attorney General Letitia James and others have initiated lawsuits against the federal government’s actions.

Senator Walczyk stated, “This is a significant victory for the trucking industry. Our hard-working truckers deserve the opportunity to operate without the unnecessary burden of state-by-state mandates that are impractical and sometimes impossible.” Trucking organizations, including the Truckers Association of New York, are also celebrating the President's Executive Order as a major win. As Kendra Hems, President of the Truckers Association of New York, put it, “Right now we're all kind of taking a breath. Our dealers are able to sell trucks again, which is great.”

This proactive measure coincides with Walczyk's cosponsorship of bill S1749, introduced by Senator Joe Griffo, aimed at prohibiting the establishment or enforcement of regulations on the percentage of zero-emission vehicles in manufacturers' sales fleets of medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles. The bill seeks to pause the Advanced Clean Truck Act (ACT) regulations.

In response to these developments, New York's Department of Environmental Conservation has issued statements highlighting the ongoing need for practical solutions to promote clean vehicle sales while ensuring that manufacturers can operate effectively amidst recent uncertainties. Senator Walczyk has always stood against these costly mandates and cosponsors S1749 as part of his commitment to support the trucking industry.
Senator Walczyk emphasized, “When the trucking industry gets picked on, everyone literally pays the price in goods and services. The President’s Executive Order backs up what Senator Griffo and I are trying to bring to bear - glad to see it.”
