Senator Pam Helming Presents Nunda EMT Martha Blair with New York State Senate Commendation Award

Senator Helming

On Sunday, July 13, Senator Pam Helming attended the Nunda First Responders and Veterans Luncheon, where she had the honor of presenting longtime EMT and Town Board Member Martha Blair with a New York State Senate Commendation Award in recognition of her extraordinary service to the community.

For more than four decades, Martha Blair has been a pillar of the Nunda Volunteer Ambulance Service, responding to over 5,000 emergency calls and providing care and comfort to individuals during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Beyond her work as an EMT, Martha dedicated over 30 years to teaching and coaching at her alma mater. She made it a priority to equip every upperclassman with CPR and first aid skills, helping prepare the next generation to respond in times of need.

Her commitment to community wellness goes even further, Martha has taught lifesaving skills through the Red Cross, led local health initiatives, supported the food bank, and even opened her own backyard pool to teach swimming lessons to local children and residents.

“Martha’s life is a powerful example of what it means to serve with heart, humility, and purpose,” said Senator Helming, who represents the 54th District in the New York State Senate. “The Senate Commendation Award is one of the highest honors we can give, reserved for individuals who have made a meaningful and lasting impact through civic and charitable service. Martha is the embodiment of that spirit. She’s given up countless evenings with family and friends to support this community and for that, she has earned our deepest and most enduring gratitude.”
