Mur-Lees and Laurel Diner Receive NYS DEC Historic Business Designation
Lynbrook/Long Beach, NY — Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick recognized two beloved local institutions, Mur-Lees of Lynbrook and the Laurel Diner of Long Beach, upon their official acceptance into the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Historic Business Preservation Registry.
Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick nominated both businesses earlier this year in recognition of their longstanding service, cultural value, and enduring presence in the community. The DEC accepted both nominations, formally designating Mur-Lees and the Laurel Diner as Historic Businesses in New York State.
The Senator visited each business to present their official designation certificates and congratulate the owners.
“Mur-Lees and the Laurel Diner represent the heart of our local communities—family-run, deeply rooted, and cherished by generations of residents. Their designation in the Historic Business Preservation Registry is a well-deserved acknowledgment of the impact they’ve had on the neighborhoods they serve. I’m proud to honor their history, their resilience, and the important role they continue to play in our district,” said Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick.
“We are honored to be part of the community for so many years and the support we get from so many people is so important to us. We appreciate all the people who take the time to come out and support local businesses,” said Bruce Levitt, Owner of Mur-Lees of Lynbrook.
“We are honored to be acknowledged as one of the few long-standing restaurants and businesses in the community. In an industry where most restaurants last only about five years, being open for more than 90 years is a testament to our food and the strong ties we’ve built with this community. This recognition belongs not only to the Laurel Diner, but to Long Beach and the people of this community,” said Andrew Loucas, Co-Owner of the Laurel Diner in Long Beach.
The Historic Business Preservation Registry recognizes longstanding New York businesses that have created lasting economic and cultural impacts within their communities.
Mur-Lees, a Lynbrook staple known for decades of exceptional customer service, and the Laurel Diner, a Long Beach landmark offering food and community connection, now join the list of New York institutions officially recognized for their historical significance.
