Lewisboro, NY - New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today he secured $120,000 in state funding that has enabled the Town of Lewisboro to purchase a mechanical excavator, which will help the municipality perform a variety of road and infrastructure projects.
“I am pleased that we can help Lewisboro make continued improvements to its infrastructure with this equipment,” Harckham said. “It is vital that we help local municipalities acquire the equipment necessary to maintain roads, drainage systems, and other infrastructure, while easing the burden of such purchases on local taxpayers.”
Lewisboro Town Supervisor Tony Gonçalves said: “With the help of Senator Harckham, the Town of Lewisboro is happy to announce that we have purchased a much-needed piece of equipment for the Lewisboro Highway Department. Our Highway Superintendent, John Winter, is very excited to start putting this equipment to work in improving our roads and related infrastructure. We are very thankful for the Senator’s continued support.”
Gonçalves said the Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability, and Technology (CREST) grant that funded the purchase was very timely to fill the Highway Department's need for an excavator.
He said the new 2025 Kubota KX080-5 will be pressed into service to help the town maintain 96 center lane miles of roads, as well as perform tree work, drainage work, and other infrastructure maintenance.
The CREST program is among the State Senate grant programs administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to support community and economic development.
Since taking office in 2019, Harckham has delivered more than $30 million in State Senate grant funding to municipalities, first responders and nonprofits in the 40th Senate District.
