Peekskill, NY - New York State Senator Pete Harckham recently presented a New York State Senate Empire Award to Ruben Alvarez, owner of Ruben’s Mexican Cafe, in celebration of the establishment's 20th anniversary in the City of Peekskill.
“I am delighted that we could recognize an important local family-owned business on its anniversary,” said Harckham. “These businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, providing jobs for our communities. Ruben’s story is one of an immigrant’s hard work and sacrifice in a very challenging business. We wish him, his family and his team many more years of success.”
Since its founding in 2005, the Ruben’s Mexican Cafe has been a much-loved gathering spot and destination for hungry diners in Peekskill, offering an authentic taste of Mexican culture and cuisine. Hailing from Jalisco, Mexico, Alvarez brought his passion for food and traditional Mexican dishes to the heart of the city on North Division Street, creating a welcoming space where locals and visitors alike can indulge in the rich flavors of his homeland.
Over the years, his restaurant has become a focal point for friends, families, and the community, where people come together to enjoy not only delicious food but a vibrant atmosphere redolent of Mexican traditions.
“I thank Senator Harckham for this award,” Alvarez said. “It is an honor to be recognized on this important milestone for our business. I hope that we can continue to contribute to the local economy and our community for many years to come."
