Today, during National Crime Victims Week, Senator Rob Rolison, Ranking Member of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, voiced serious concerns about two pieces of legislation advanced in the committee that shift focus toward the interests of incarcerated individuals rather than supporting crime victims.

Alongside fellow committee member Senator Dean Murray, Senator Rolison engaged in a thoughtful debate on the proposals, emphasizing the importance of putting victims and public safety first.

Senator Rolison said:

“Instead of addressing critical issues like the staffing shortages and dangerous conditions in our prisons, the Senate Democrats’ only solution seems to be to release more dangerous incarcerated individuals into our communities. Failing to consider the message this sends to the victims and survivors of crime and making their position crystal clear– the needs of the convicted are more important than the safety and well-being of the offended."
