Joint statement from Senator Brouk, Cooney and Assemblymembers Clark, Meeks and Bronson on sanctuary city policies
April 29, 2025

Senator Samra Brouk, Assemblywoman Sarah Clark, Assemblymember Demond Meeks, Assemblymember Harry Bronson, Assemblymember Jen Lunsford, and Senator Jeremy Cooney:
“Sanctuary city policies do not endanger our public–they exist to protect the safety and wellbeing of all residents. By threatening to dismantle a system that safeguards our city, we invite hostility, danger, and chaos into our daily lives. We remain committed to defending Rochester’s proud legacy as a sanctuary city. Every individual— regardless of their birthplace, immigration status, religion, or language—deserves protection.
“Immigrants and refugees have long been a part of Rochester’s rich cultural tapestry. We reject the federal administration’s racist, fear-based policies that attempt to target and dehumanize our friends and neighbors. Instead, we are proud to collaborate with our community members on policies that value our history and are rooted in compassion and justice for all families.”
