Angie Davis Leveritte - 2026 Woman of Distinction
Albany, NY – Senator April N.M. Baskin recognized retired New York State Court Officer Sgt. Angie Davis Leveritte Wednesday at the annual Women of Distinction ceremony held in the State Capitol.
Sgt. Leveritte’s distinguished law enforcement career spans over 35 years, including the last 18 years assigned to Judicial Security in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Lockport.
In 2017, Sgt. Leveritte became the first African American female Court Officer promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the City of Buffalo and Western New York. Until her retirement in 2025, she remained the only woman of color in a court security supervisory role in the 8th Judicial District.
Sgt. Leveritte broke barriers throughout her law enforcement career, becoming the first Court Officer to be appointed as a co-chair for the 8th Judicial District Gender Fairness Committee and she served on the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission Advisory Group, working to promote racial and ethnic fairness in the court system.
Additionally, Sgt. Leveritte was a member of the 8th Judicial District’s community outreach team, speaking at job fairs, churches, schools, and social events. She led the recruitment team for the 2020 Court Officer Exam and mentored criminal justice students, inspiring the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
A Western New York native, Sgt. Leveritte continues to serve her community in retirement as President of the Norfolk Ave Block Club #1 and Vice President of the Metro CDC Delavan-Grider Community Center board. She is a dedicated advocate for safe infrastructure and for a better quality of life in the Delavan Grider Community and on Buffalo’s East Side. She is married with two children.
Of the many accolades Sgt. Leveritte has received, she is most proud of the 2020 Women in Law Award. A permanent testament to her life work, Sgt. Leveritte’s name is engraved on a plaque at the Dolores Denman Court House, Appellate Division 4th Department in Rochester, New York.
Senator Baskin said, “A dedicated public servant, Angie Davis Leveritte spent more than three decades protecting and uplifting our community. As the first African American woman to rise to the rank of Sergeant in Western New York’s court system, Sgt. Leveritte is a true trailblazer who paved the way for others to follow. Her legacy of mentorship, advocacy, and service continues to inspire the next generation of law enforcement professionals. I am proud to honor Sgt. Leveritte as a 2026 Woman of Distinction – a recognition that reflects the lasting impact of her service.”
