Queens, NY — New York State Senator James Sanders Jr. proudly hosted his 6th Annual Women’s History Month Celebration, at the Rochdale Village Grand Ballroom, bringing together a vibrant cross-section of community leaders, elected officials, veterans, and residents to honor the extraordinary contributions of women—particularly those who have served in the armed forces.
This year’s event recognized 17 outstanding women honorees from the community, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and dedication. The celebration highlighted the strength, resilience, and impact of women in uniform, while also uplifting their continued contributions; even beyond military service.
The event was held in collaboration with the Rochdale Village Community Relations Committee and New York City Council Member Ty Hankerson, and was supported by a wide network of sponsors, volunteers, and community-based organizations. As in years past, the entire community was invited, and the overwhelming response led to RSVPs reaching capacity well ahead of the deadline.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers, New York State Assemblymember Khaleel M. Anderson, and Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, along with numerous civic leaders and representatives from veteran organizations. The program was emceed by Latoya Legrand, the Senator's District Manager and she did a phenomenal job. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) was also present in strong support, with the NYPD Jazz Band delivering an outstanding musical performance during the evening’s dinner program. We had various other performances including the Rochdale Village Line Dance group, who closed out the evening and opened up the dance floor.
“This event continues to grow because our community understands the importance of recognizing the women who serve, lead, and inspire,” said Senator Sanders. “This year, we were especially proud to honor women in the armed forces—women who have stepped forward to protect our nation while also strengthening our communities at home.”
The evening was marked by elegance, celebration, and heartfelt recognition, with family members, supporters, and community partners coming out in strong numbers to honor the awardees. Senator Sanders extended his sincere gratitude to all who contributed to making the event a success, including his staff.
“As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we are reminded that without women, there is no community,” Sanders added. “To every woman making an impact—whether in uniform, in leadership, in business, or in the home—we thank you and we celebrate you.”
Happy Women’s History Month.
