Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., partnered with DMS International to bring a special technology class to the Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Older Adult Center on June 9, 2026, and to the Ozone Park Older Adult Center on June 16, 2026. The lessons were led by Tyler Singh, the Vice President of the company, who was joined by his mother, Kamini Singh, the President of DMS International, and her other two children who are staffers Shane and Emily.
“At DMS International, community service means using our knowledge to educate and enrich our community,” said Kamini Singh. “Our team is proud to build stronger community relationships through digital awareness, especially by helping seniors understand today’s technology risks and feel more confident staying safe online.”
Tyler gave a brief presentation on how to avoid scams that target texts, phone calls and emails. He also distributed a flyer with the phone numbers of common utility companies and other entities. Scammers often pose as Con Edison, EZ-Pass, the IRS, and others to obtain money or private information. He emphasized that these companies will never initiate contact via phone or text, and if such communication is received, recipients should hang up or delete the message and then call the real company number to verify if there is an actual issue with the account. Bogus numbers can be reported directly to the company or by calling 311.
Likewise, Tyler advised the seniors to be cautious regarding strangers texting them or people claiming to be family members asking for money. He detailed that AI can be used to duplicate human voices so that the person on the phone may even sound like someone they know. He advised not to click on any links in unknown texts and not to answer unknown phone calls because even saying “hello” can allow scammers to copy their voice for usage in scamming activity.
After the brief presentation, DMS International staff members worked one-on-one with the seniors to help resolve any issues they have been experiencing with technological devices and attendees commented that the presentation was beneficial.
“This community outreach from DMS International reflects a meaningful commitment to helping elders navigate technology challenges,” said Senator Addabbo. “Technology can be a powerful tool for staying connected and informed, and I’m glad we could provide clarity and practical tips to keep seniors safe online.”
