NYS Senator Kristen Gonzalez on NYU Langone's Discontinuation of Gender-affirming Care for Youth
February 18, 2026
Gender-affirming care is essential healthcare. Discontinuing this service for transgender and gender expansive youth is dangerous and cruel.
NYU Langone’s decision to capitulate to the Trump Administration puts young people in need of life saving care at risk. It’s not only irresponsible, it helps the Trump Administration’s anti-trans agenda at the expense of NYU Langone’s own patients.
For more than a year, I’ve stood with our community, and together we’ve rallied, marched, and written tens of thousands of letters to send a clear message that trans youth deserve care. To win a city where all New Yorkers have a dignified life, we must continue to fight for our trans neighbors, defend their right to gender affirming care, and push our state legislature to fund this healthcare.
I urge the legislature and Governor Hochul to support and pass my legislation to establish an $8 million gender affirming care fund. Our young people’s health depends on our immediate action and leadership. Let’s not fail them.
