Today, NYS Senator Lea Webb delivered $150,000 in funding to the Village of Endicott through the New York State Senate’s Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability, and Technology (CREST) Program for the installation of an emerging contaminant system for the Village of Endicott to assist with water quality.

Since about 1912, the Village of Endicott has obtained its water supply from wells that penetrate relatively shallow sand and gravel layers within the Susquehanna River Valley Aquifer System. Since 1981, several of these wells currently in use have yielded water with elevated concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), requiring remedial water treatment and/or pumping auxiliary wells to remove contaminants.

The Village utilizes three groundwater supply wells (No. 32, 5, & 28) along the Susquehanna River and augments its supply via interconnection with Johnson City. These wells provide nearly 3.7 million gallons of water per day to the Village of Endicott and portions of the Town of Union, serving approximately 46,000 users.

Well No. 32 (Ranney Well), located near Grippen County Park, is the primary source of the Village water supply with a maximum pumping rate of 3,500 gallons per minute. 1,4-dioxane has been detected in its raw water supply, along with elevated levels of Iron and Manganese. Wells No. 5 and 28 have been deemed unusable, and the Village is currently working to replace them; however, Well No. 32 can be treated.

"We are grateful to Senator Lea Webb for securing this $150,000 CREST grant, which will help the Village of Endicott continue investing in critical infrastructure that protects public health and improves the quality of life for our residents,” said Mayor Nick Burlingame, Mayor of the Village of Endicott. “This funding allows us to address environmental challenges proactively while reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers. We appreciate Senator Webb's continued partnership and commitment to supporting communities like Endicott through investments that strengthen our infrastructure and position us for the future."

“Access to clean and reliable water infrastructure is essential for every community. It is no secret to public officials such as myself and Mayor Burlingame that the Village of Endicott has struggled with water quality for years. For residents, brown water and boil advisories have become a normal occurrence and fact of life. Securing this $150,000 grant means we are taking a meaningful step toward improving residents' daily lives by making the water we drink and use cleaner,” said Senator Lea Webb. “I am committed to delivering real, tangible results that reflect the priorities of our community, and this is one of many steps I will continue to take to support local infrastructure, public safety, and economic sustainability.”
