STATEMENT FROM SENATOR CANZONERI-FITZPATRICK

In response to NYSERDA’s Report on the Projected Costs of CLCPA Compliance

The recent memo from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) confirms what Senate Republicans have been saying for years: the CLCPA’s goals and timelines are detached from economic reality and place an unreasonable financial burden on New Yorkers. When even the state’s own energy research and development agency raises red flags, we should listen.

These policies are actively driving higher costs, with gasoline projected to increase by an additional $2.23 per gallon and small and mid-sized businesses facing utility increases of up to 46%, with even more hikes on the horizon. Again, what we have been saying for years is clear: New York needs a broad, diversified energy portfolio that prioritizes New Yorkers, not one built on narrow mandates and unrealistic timelines. Instead of doubling down on the CLCPA, we should pursue an energy strategy that prioritizes reliability, affordability, and practical options for families and businesses across our state.

These are not abstract projections. They are real costs that families and businesses will be forced to pay, and New Yorkers simply cannot afford these price hikes. Albany must change course before these mandates do lasting damage to our economy, and I will continue fighting to right the ship on this issue.
