Senator Fahy Announces $50,000 for Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market during National Farmers Market Week
August 26, 2026
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Senator Patricia Fahy announced today that $50,000 in operating funds was secured through her office for the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market. Incorporated in 2016, Grow Amsterdam has a mission to connect local farmers and artisans to the Amsterdam community with high-quality local goods like fresh produce, baked goods, plants, and handcrafted goods. Their outreach is focused on conserving and empowering community-managed green spaces through environmental education.
Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market creates a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere through community tables at the market, used by local organizations that are encouraged to use the market to build awareness, enlist support, and conduct activities that will benefit the community. They foster partnerships between the community and their vendors through cooking demonstrations, activities for kids, crafts, healthy living talks, and gardening demonstrations. In addition to vendors, the Market showcases local musicians and entertainers, creating a lively, dynamic atmosphere on Saturday mornings in Amsterdam.
The Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market takes place at 100 Church Street in Amsterdam in the parking lot of the Walter Elwood Museum every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Grow Amsterdam is always in search of volunteers to help vendors behind the scenes every week. To get involved with the market, volunteers can reach out on their website. Local businesses sponsor the Farmers Market, and those interested in supporting as a sponsor can find more information here from the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market Planning Committee.
“Grow Amsterdam is bringing the community together every week in a lively, inviting atmosphere where people can support small businesses and local agriculture,” said Senator Patricia Fahy (D–Albany). “Celebrating National Farmers Market Week with Grow Amsterdam is a great reminder of what a win-win this is for our local family farms and working families that struggle to access fresh, nutritious food. Talking to some of the vendors firsthand, they are thrilled to be showcasing their work for the community and have business booming on Saturdays in Amsterdam. Thank you to Grow Amsterdam for bringing healthy food and community to this city.”
