Rolison Presses MTA on Accessibility Issues at Poughkeepsie Train Station

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 20, 2026) – Senator Rob Rolison is calling on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to address ongoing accessibility concerns at the Poughkeepsie Metro-North Station, where a long-out-of-service elevator has created significant barriers for riders.
“For months, my office has been hearing from Hudson Valley residents about the ongoing elevator outage — and we hear you,” said Senator Rolison. “This is more than an inconvenience; it’s a serious accessibility issue for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and anyone unable to use the stairs.”
The MTA has indicated that repairs have been delayed due to the need for a custom part for the elevator, which dates back to 1959, but now expects the elevator to be back in service before the end of April.
In the meantime, riders who are unable to use the stairs can request assistance by calling 511 or 212-532-4900 at least one to two hours prior to their trip, saying “Accessibility Assistance,” and requesting that their train depart from Track 2. Requests will be accommodated when operationally feasible.
“At a time when fares continue to rise, riders deserve expanded access — not barriers,” Rolison added. “My office will continue pushing for answers and accountability until this issue is resolved and every commuter can safely access this station.”
