The Honorable Yadhira Gonzalez-Taylor served in the United States Army Reserve and achieved the rank of Specialist E-4.
Judge Gonzalez-Taylor served as a Military Police Officer for six years and earned numerous awards, including the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
She is a dedicated lifelong public servant, educator, and author. Judge Gonzalez- Taylor was elected to the Civil Court in Bronx County in 2022, where she currently serves as Supervising Judge of the Bronx Criminal Court.
Born and raised in the Bronx and a proud graduate of the New York City public school system, Judge Gonzalez-Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, and Master of Arts from The City University of New York John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a Juris Doctor from New York Law School.
Her legal career began in 2002 as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx, where she prosecuted cases involving economic crimes, arson, animal cruelty, and public corruption. In 2006, Judge Gonzalez-Taylor joined the New York Police Department as an internal prosecutor, handling misconduct and corruption matters. She later served as an Administrative Law Hearing Officer for the New York City Department of Education.
Outside the courtroom, Judge Gonzalez-Taylor is an adjunct professor at Monroe College and a mentor to law students and aspiring judges through various bar associations and the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Mentorship Program.
Her commitment to community extends beyond her legal work. Judge Gonzalez- Taylor has served on congressional military academy nominating committees and actively supports literacy and cultural programs in the Bronx. She volunteers with veterans’ organizations and serves on the New York State Bar Association’s Judicial Wellness Committee.
