Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) announced today that he has secured funding for the Long Island Maritime Museum.

The $125,000 capital grant that Senator Foley provided, which will be administered through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), will be used to make various improvements at the facility, including the expansion and renewal of the museum’s collections.

“The Long Island Maritime Museum is an important resource for our community because it preserves the history of what was once Long Island’s largest industry,” said Senator Foley. “Someone once said that we can chart the course to the future only when we know the path that has led to the present. The Long Island Maritime Museum helps to ensure that we are always mindful of the rich history of the coastal portions of our community. I am glad to be able to provide them with the funding necessary to continue their mission.”

“Senator Foley shares our vision and mission of preserving Long Island’s maritime history for educational purposes,” said Natasha S. Alexenko, Executive Director of the Long Island Maritime Museum. “This grant will be used to enhance the experience for Long Island Maritime Museum visitors of all age ranges and interests by expanding and updating our exhibits. We are so fortunate to have this support to ensure our unique collections are available for the future seafaring generations to come.”
