Senator to Host Domestic Violence Awareness Month Event

In recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. invites the community to an informative session aimed at education, prevention, and connecting survivors with support and resources. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Ozone Park Jewish Center, 107-01 Cross Bay Boulevard, Ozone Park, NY 11417.

“Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that touches individuals and families across every neighborhood,” said Addabbo. “By coming together this month, we can break the silence, share critical resources, and remind survivors that they are not alone. Working collectively, we can create a safer community for everyone.”

The program is presented with the assistance of the Ozone Tudor Civic Association. Attendees will hear from guest speakers representing Safe Horizon and the NYPD Domestic Violence Unit, who will lead discussions and activities focused on prevention and support strategies. Community members are urged to participate in this essential conversation.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that Domestic Violence or Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) impacts millions of Americans annually. The CDC reports that 41% of women and 26% of men have experienced contact sexual violence or physical abuse or stalking from their intimate partner during their lifetime. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that 34% of female murder victims and 6 percent of male murder victims were killed by intimate partners in 2021.

The Domestic Violence Prevention event hosted by Senator Addabbo will provide attendees with knowledge about survivor challenges while showing them available resources for help. The event provides a chance for people to support victims while spreading awareness about domestic violence and working toward ending its cycle.

“Every voice matters,” Addabbo said, “and together, we can create meaningful change.”
