Campaign Urges Bronx Kids to ‘Raise Their Pants’
WHAT:
With school opening, State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. and
Senators Ruth Hassell-Thompson and Eric Adams will give school children
their first assignment when they hold a press conference to unveil a mobile
billboard – a truck that will drive around Bronx neighborhoods with the
message “Stop the Sag – Raise Your Pants, Raise Your Image.” Music With A
Message, a youth choir whose members range in age from 7 to 21 whose music
is aimed at inspiring self-esteem and pride, will sing their song that
urges kids to “pull up their pants.” Espada is also unveiling a “Stop the
Sag” Web Site and plans to send the mobile billboard to the other four
boroughs in the weeks ahead. "We are accustomed to hearing, 'School's open,
drive safely.' Now we are adding, 'School's open, pull your pants up.' Have
pride in your appearance," Espada said.
