GLICK -- read once and referred to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend chapter 537 of the laws of 2008, amending the education law relating to a restricted dental faculty license, in relation to extending the expiration of such chapter THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 537 of the laws of 2008, amending the education law relating to a restricted dental faculty license, as amended by chapter 172 of the laws of 2014, is amended to read as follows: S 2. This act shall take effect February 1, 2009 and shall expire February 1, [2017] 2019 when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed; provided that the commissioner of education is authorized to promulgate rules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this act prior to such effective date; and provided further that any restricted dental faculty license awarded prior to February 1, [2017] 2019 shall remain valid and effective until the expi- ration thereof. GLICK -- read once and referred to the Committee on Higher Education -- passed by Assembly and delivered to the Senate, recalled from the Senate, vote reconsidered, bill amended, ordered reprinted, retaining its place on the order of third reading AN ACT to amend chapter 537 of the laws of 2008, amending the education law relating to a restricted dental faculty license, in relation to extending the expiration of such chapter THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 537 of the laws of 2008, amending the education law relating to a restricted dental faculty license, as amended by chapter 172 of the laws of 2014, is amended to read as follows: S 2. No later than December 1, 2016, the deans of the academic dental centers in New York state shall submit a report to the governor and the chairs of the senate and assembly higher education committees that includes a proposal for legislation to address the shortage of New York- trained dentists pursuing academic careers in New York state. Such proposal may, but is not required to, include, without limitation, such elements as a state-supported scholarship program, a state-supported debt forgiveness program, a distinct academic program and course load, and other elements designed to ensure sufficient capacity to fill facul- ty vacancies among New York state academic dental centers from among the graduates of such schools, and from other dentists licensed by New York state.
