On Monday, June 23, State Senator Shelley B. Mayer recognized 38 students across her district with citizenship awards including four local students from Rye and Rye Neck High Schools.

The citizenship award recognizes students who have made significant contributions to their school or community through civic engagement and involvement, community service, consistent actions, and or extracurricular activities. Students were nominated for this honor by a teacher or school administrator that felt their nominees encompassed the characteristics of the award.

Rye High School 2025 graduates Ava Cross and Brady Howard, were the award recipients from Rye High School. Cross will attend Binghamton next year, and Howard is set to attend University of South Carolina.

2025 Rye Neck High School graduates Rachelle Candamil and Melani Linares were also recognized.

The award ceremony was hosted by White Plains High School. Each student received a certificate from Senator Mayer and had the opportunity to discuss what involvement and contributions led them to receive their award.
