Statement on Soccer Stadium Proposal for Aqueduct
Joseph P. Addabbo Jr
September 16, 2014
As with any community project rumor or proposal, once it hits the streets of the community, it opens a can of worms regarding possible issues. And so, a proposal to consider city-owned property at Aqueduct Racetrack for a soccer stadium brings a hosts of issues that must be addressed before the plan is to move forward.
Currently, I am extremely hesitant to welcome a soccer stadium to the Aqueduct site. Exact location and size of the stadium, traffic patterns, public safety and the certain impact on the surrounding neighborhood quality of life are just some of the issues that I would need answers to in examining this proposal. My constituents need as many facts as possible now, as we start to have discussions on this issue.
