Addabbo to co-host free educational webinar on offshore wind energy

New York is leading the way in creating renewable energy, and with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) awarding two new offshore wind projects, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and other local elected officials are partnering to bring a virtual educational seminar to the community.

Offshore Wind Energy: The Promise of Good Jobs & Clean Energy will be a virtual seminar where experts from the offshore wind energy industry, government officials, members of the labor movement, and higher education talk about New York’s plans to build, install, and operate hundreds of wind turbines in the waters off New York City and Long Island.

These two now offshore wind projects bring with them the promise of 5,200 direct jobs and are expected to bring in combined economic activity of $8.9 billion in labor, supplies, development and manufacturing statewide.

This free seminar will take place online on Wednesday, April 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is open to all students, educators, and community members who are interested in learning more about New York’s growing offshore wind energy industry, the career opportunities that will come with it, and its environmental benefits for the community.

“As New York continues to expand its nation-leading clean energy agenda, there will be more and more positive impacts on our local communities including new jobs building and maintaining these offshore structures,” Addabbo said. “This new industry will help create jobs in the immediate future, as well as years down the line. I encourage everyone who may be interested in these types of jobs — including students who want to get into the clean energy filed — to attend this free seminar. I would like to thank my colleagues for helping to bring this event to the public, as well as all the amazing community partners for putting this together.”
