October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and during this month State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is promoting his Free Mammogram Screening event in conjunction with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation to take place this December.
The Mammogram Bus will be parked inside the Key Food parking lot located at 87-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, on the Rockaway Peninsula on Friday, December 2 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Those who register with Addabbo’s office will be able to receive their free mammogram screening.
“Getting a mammogram is vitally important to women’s health,” Addabbo said. “Breast cancer has taken the lives of so many women, but it is a treatable condition if caught early. That is why I am bringing this service for my constituents, free of charge. Whether it’s receiving a clean bill of health or getting checked because of a family history of breast cancer, mammogram screenings are a crucial health exam and I hope women will sign up for this service. I would like to thank the American Italian Cancer Foundation for their partnership in this endeavor.”
In order to be eligible for the clinical breast exam, women must be:
- Between 40 and 79 years old with health insurance;
- Between 50 and 79 years old without health insurance;
- Currently living in New York City; and
- Had not had a mammogram in the last 12 months.
Uninsured patients are welcome, there are no co-payments, and all deductibles are waived for this service. Although registration is preferred, walk-ins will be accommodated on a limited basis.
Appointments are limited, so to ensure that you are able to get a free mammogram screening, call Addabbo’s office at 718-738-1111 or the American-Italian Cancer Foundation at 1-877-628-9090 to make an appointment.
