Senator Addabbo helps constituents empty their bags of paper to be shredded.
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. joined his colleagues in government Senator Roxanne J. Persaud and Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato in hosting a shredding event at the St. Helen’s Church parking lot in Howard Beach on July 26, 2025.
Residents lined up to shred their old personal documents in a safe, a responsible way that protects them from potential identity theft and repurpose old paper.
The two-hour event produced tons of shredded paper and filled the shredding truck to capacity. Residents showed up with bags, boxes, shopping carts and milk crates full of paper.
Some constituents looked through the truck’s interior camera window to view the paper being pulverized it confetti.
"I'm proud to join my colleagues in bringing this shredding event to the community,” Senator Persaud said. “It’s a simple way to protect personal information and support a cleaner, greener environment."
"I'm grateful for the overwhelming support of our community in prioritizing safety and environmental responsibility through this shredding event,” Senator Addabbo said. “A special thank you to Senator Persaud for leading this impactful initiative, Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato for co-sponsoring, and St. Helen’s Church for generously providing their space. Together, we're making a difference—protecting our families and our environment."
"With all the papers, documents, and private details we accumulate, Senator Addabbo, Senator Persaud and I knew it was important to make sure our constituents had a safe and efficient way to discard that information,” Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato said. “With a line that continuously wrapped around the block and a completely full truck, it's clear that the event was needed and a success.”
