June 27, 2025

Senator Addabbo commends Rachel Kellner, owner of Aigner Chocolates.
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. visited Aigner Chocolate in Forest Hills on June 25, 2025, to recognize its long history of service to the community and its important role in the community. During the visit, Senator Addabbo presented owner Rachel Kellner with a formal acknowledgement to mark Aigner Chocolate’s inclusion in New York State’s Historic Business Registry.
Aigner Chocolates was founded in 1930 as one of the oldest candy stores in New York City. The shop has remained in the hands of the same family for three generations and has kept its traditional recipes and Austrian-style chocolate-making techniques using antique equipment that has been passed down through the years.
“I am proud to recognize Aigner Chocolate for its long history and its continued status as a well-known local business,” Addabbo said. “This family-owned business has been making our community sweeter for almost a hundred years, and I congratulate Rachel Kellner on keeping this beloved tradition alive and being recognized by New York State for its longevity.”
Kellner intends to continue Aigner’s practice of making fine Austrian-style chocolates with the same level of craftsmanship and equipment that has characterized the shop for many years. The New York State Historic Business Registry induction recognizes the value of small businesses which form the cultural identity of our neighborhoods for a minimum of over 50 years.
