State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. hosted his free bi-annual electronic waste recycling event on May 4, 2025, at the Forest Park Bandshell Parking Lot. The Lower East Side Ecology Center collected electronic waste including outdated and broken devices. A partnership with PaintCare allowed Addabbo’s Office to accept paint donations during this event for the first time.

Over 300 people attended the four-hour event, lining up early to drop off a variety of e-waste and paint. The Lower East Side Ecology Center estimates that they collected 23,000 pounds of e-waste, while PaintCare estimates it collected 1,860 gallons of paint. They collected so much paint, in fact, that their truck was filled to capacity by the end of the event.

Senator Addabbo highlighted the need for correct disposal methods of these items because improper recycling of electronics and paint leads to dangerous chemical contamination of landfills and water sources and soil pollution.

“The improper disposal of these items leads to severe environmental damage and health risks for the public,” Addabbo said. “The recycling process protects our planet while creating a sustainable future. I host this event at Forest Park twice a year, so the community has an easy location, close to home, to bring these items.

Senator Addabbo would like to thank all of the event partners, especially the Parks Department and G-COP/104COP for their support.
