Franklin Square, NY - Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick is proud to honor Gina Centauro as her 2025 Woman of Distinction for New York State Senate District 9. 

Gina Centauro co-founded Rescuing Families, Inc. in 2016 with her husband, Vincent, and has since played a pivotal role in expanding its mission and reach. Through her tireless advocacy, and personal compassion, Gina has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support home renovations for families in need. Their mission is to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities by renovating their homes to meet their unique needs - transforming lives, one home at a time.

“Gina Centauro embodies the very spirit of selfless service and determination,” said Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick. “Her work through Rescuing Families has restored dignity and hope to so many who have felt forgotten. She reminds us that compassion, when combined with action, can change lives, and she does it every single day.”

In addition to running the nonprofit, Gina is also the primary caregiver for her sister, who lives with multiple disabilities and serves as the inspiration for the charity. Despite her many responsibilities, Gina has never turned her back on someone in need.

Gina’s tireless work has not gone unnoticed. She and her husband have been featured on Good Morning America, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and the cover of Newsday’s LI Life. She is the recipient of numerous accolades, including the 2019 Town of Hempstead Making a Difference Award, the 2021 United Way Workforce Hero Award, the 2022 Pathfinder Award, and the 2023 Woman of Distinction Award from Assemblyman Ed Ra, among others.

Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick added, “Gina has not only built a foundation in the physical sense, but also in the emotional and spiritual sense for those who need it most. She is a role model for our entire community, and I am proud to honor her as my 2025 Woman of Distinction.”
