Sen. Fahy, City of Amsterdam Announce 2025 Summer Parks Program in Neighborhood Parks to Begin Next Week
July 2, 2025

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Today, Senator Patricia Fahy (D—Albany) and Amsterdam Mayor Michael Cinquanti (D—Amsterdam) announced that the City of Amsterdam will receive $50,000 through a legislative grant she secured to staff six Amsterdam City parks this summer with six individual Recreation Attendants, beginning on Monday, July 7, 2025, from Monday to Friday from 9:45a.m. to 2:15p.m. every week.
Locations include:
- Sirchia Park at 220-232 Guy on Park Ave,
- Arnold Avenue Park on Arnold Ave,
- Esperanza Verde Park on East Main St,
- Barkley School Park at 66 DeStefano Ave,
- Veteran’s Park on Locust Ave, and
- Sassafras Playground at 40 Henrietta Blvd.
Led by a designated Recreation Leader, attendants will organize activities, lead games, activities and crafts, and coordinate a citywide Field Day. The program will include weekly themes, ending with exhibitions or competitions. Activities feature chalk art, freeze dance parties, karaoke, scavenger hunts, athletic games, bubbles bonanza, and more. The Amsterdam Summer Parks Program encourages kids to use neighborhood parks and ensures safety and security for children and their parents.
“I’m thrilled to be able to secure $50,000 for the City of Amsterdam to implement the 2025 Summer Parks Program,” said Senator Patricia Fahy. “This funding will ensure that kids who are otherwise not enrolled in a summer camp and families that do not have alternative plans for the summer will have a safe place to congregate, recreate, and enjoy the summer. Improving quality of life in our communities and expanding services and programming like this that benefit our working families will always be one of my top priorities, and I thank Amsterdam Mayor Mike Cinquanti for his partnership and vision on delivering this program for our community.”
"Our City works very hard to make our neighborhood parks inviting for children to take advantage of them," said City of Amsterdam Mayor Mike Cinquanti. "The ability to add mature supervision and structure to each of them this summer will help ensure they become the kinds of safe neighborhood gathering places we all want them to be. This would not have been possible without Senator Fahy's advocacy for the funding we will use to subsidize this effort. On behalf of the children of our city and their parents, we thank her for going to bat for the kids of Amsterdam."
