Statement by State Senator Shelley B. Mayer on Attorney General Letitia James Decision to Intervene in Texas Lawsuit to Defend New York's Shield Law

“I applaud Attorney General Letitia James for intervening on Friday in the lawsuit brought by the Texas Attorney General seeking to use New York courts to enforce Texas’ outrageous anti-abortion laws. AG James has stepped up to defend our own New York law, and the licensed New York providers who are offering safe, legal telemedicine abortion services to women who would otherwise not be able to access that healthcare. As the initial Senate sponsor of the telemedicine shield law, I am grateful to the Attorney General for refusing to cave to the Texas Attorney General, and for defending New York’s law and supporting the officials who comply with it.”
