State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. brought together art enthusiasts, wine lovers, and residents for an afternoon of creativity, conversation, and community connection during a Fall Sip and Paint event held on November 1, 2026, at Graceful Wine and Liquor in Forest Hills.

The two-hour outdoor event, hosted on the store’s back patio, welcomed more than two dozen participants who enjoyed an afternoon of painting, wine tasting, and socializing while supporting a neighborhood small business owned by Grace Guan.

“Events like this remind us that some of the best ways to strengthen our communities are also the simplest—bringing neighbors together, sharing a glass of wine, and enjoying a creative experience,” Addabbo said. “I have always believed that our small businesses are the backbone of our neighborhoods, and I am pleased to support local entrepreneurs like Grace who create welcoming spaces where residents can connect, build friendships, and enjoy everything our community has to offer.”

Under the guidance of local artist Frances O. Scarantino, participants created their own autumn-inspired paintings featuring colorful fall foliage and birch trees. Scarantino provided all the necessary art supplies, including canvases, brushes, and paints, allowing guests of all artistic abilities to participate.

Scarantino is the owner of Reach For The Stars as well as a passionate and creative painting instructor who enjoys bringing people together through art. With a welcoming and encouraging approach, she creates a fun, relaxed atmosphere where participants of all skill levels can explore their creativity. Frances believes that painting is not just about creating a beautiful piece of art, but also about making memories, building friendships, and enjoying new experiences.

“My goal is for every participant to leave feeling inspired, accomplished, and proud of their masterpiece,” Scarantino said.

Throughout the afternoon, attendees sampled five different wines, with Joe Steward of Quintessential Wines, a distributor for Graceful Wine and Liquor, offering insight into each selection. Steward shared information about the wines’ regions of origin, flavor profiles, and distinctive characteristics, adding an educational element to the tasting experience.

For Guan, the event represented an opportunity to bring people together while introducing residents to her business and sharing her appreciation for wine and community.

“Wine has always had a wonderful way of bringing people together, encouraging conversation, laughter, and new friendships,” Guan said. “I wanted to create an experience where people could relax, express their creativity, and enjoy each other’s company. It means so much to me to see our store become a place where neighbors can connect, and I am grateful to Senator Addabbo for supporting small businesses like mine and helping make this event possible.”

Guan credits her parents, whose continued encouragement and support have inspired her entrepreneurial journey, for helping her pursue her business goals.

The afternoon also featured raffles, adding an extra element of excitement to the gathering. Rhoda S. Gerber of Rego Park won a bottle of wine, while Nikolaos Georgostathis of Forest Hills took home Scarantino’s sample painting.

Addabbo emphasized that supporting independently owned businesses is essential to maintaining the character and vitality of local neighborhoods.

“When we support a small business, we are doing more than making a purchase—we are investing in our neighbors, our local economy, and the future of our community,” Addabbo added. “I encourage residents to explore the wonderful businesses right here in their own neighborhoods. Events like this demonstrate how local establishments can serve not only as places of commerce but also as gathering spaces that bring people closer together.”

The event concluded with participants taking home their completed autumn paintings, along with memories of an afternoon filled with art, wine, and community spirit.
