In a celebration of motherhood and community, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. hosted a free Mother’s Day jazz concert honoring the spirit of moms everywhere on May 1, 2026, at Sacred Heart Church in Glendale. It was conducted in partnership with Harmony 4 All and attracted dozens of constituents of all ages.
The Mother’s Day Concert included standard jazz favorites to uplift and celebrate the spirit and strength of mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, godmothers and motherly women across generations. The church location was chosen as it is intended to be an open place, communicating the sentiment that music and community can unite and improve families in celebration.
The performance featured music by prominent female artists such as Ann Ronell, Alice Coltrane, Carla Bley, Geri Allen and Ruth Lowe, plus an original tune called “Mom” by Harmony 4 All co-founder and alto saxophonist Joshua Quddus.
Other members of the featured band, known as the Joshua Quddus Quartet, were pianist Samuel Li, bassist Sedge Green, and drummer Zev Vestel. Each member of the quartet is an accomplished musician, participating in various prestigious youth programs, including the New York Youth Symphony Jazz and the New School.
Harmony 4 All, founded by brother-sister duo Joshua and Bianca Quddus, provides musical education to underserved students in local schools, recognizing its vital role in emotional and intellectual development. They remove financial hurdles and provide access to musical materials that help students develop their love for music and creativity.
"This presents a wonderful opportunity to pause and express gratitude to the wonderful moms across our community,” Addabbo said. “They are the bedrock of our society. This concert offers one avenue to recognize the sacrifices mothers make and the daily joy they give. Our thanks to Harmony 4 All and Sacred Heart Church for standing with the community."
