Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. hosted a podcast in advance of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September and Men’s Health Month in November to help raise awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of regular screenings.

Senator Addabbo was joined by Lorraine Chambers Lewis, President of LIJFH, and Dr. Jane Cho, a board-certified urologist with Northwell Health, for a discussion focused on early detection, risk factors, and access to care.

“Protecting men’s health starts with awareness, education, and access to screenings,” Addabbo said. “Too many lives are affected because prostate cancer is often found too late, and that is why these conversations matter.”

During the discussion, Chambers Lewis emphasized the importance of community-based outreach and partnerships that make preventive care more accessible to men and families in Queens. Dr. Cho explained that prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in American men aside from skin cancer, and that 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed during his lifetime. They also noted that the initial screening usually involves a simple PSA blood test. 

Senator Addabbo is also partnering with LIJFH to host prostate screenings at his district offices, bringing prevention and early detection opportunities directly to the community.
