In recognition of August as American Artist Appreciation Month, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. hosted a Senior Paint Party for his constituents age 60+ at American Legion Post 1424 in Forest Hills on August 28, 2026.

American Artist Appreciation Month celebrates the creativity and contributions of artists across the country, recognizing how art strengthens communities, inspires new ideas, and supports mental health and wellness—especially through programs that bring people together.

The instructor was Frances O. Scarantino, Owner and Director of Reach For The STARS! She was joined by her assistant Gianna Fulgieri. More than two dozen seniors attended the class. All the painting supplies were provided by Scarantino, and the subject of the painting was a tropical sunset with palm trees.

“American Artist Appreciation Month is a chance to celebrate the power of creativity—and today’s class shows how art can bring joy, connection, and purpose to our community,” Addabbo said. “I’m grateful to Reach for the Stars and American Legion Post 1424 for helping make this event possible, and I thank everyone who participated.”
