Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. visited Dexter Wines & Spirits at 75-13 Jamaica Avenue, Woodhaven on May 8, 2026, to commemorate the store’s place in the community and its membership in New York State’s Historic Business Registry. 

During the visit, Senator Addabbo recognized Dexter Wines & Spirits as a pillar of neighborhood history and honored the owners Victor and John Hui with an official recognition. The timing is particularly appropriate as May is National Small Business Month. 

“Dexter Wines & Spirits exemplifies the heart of our neighborhood,” Addabbo said. “For eight decades this family-owned business has continued to bring warmth, knowledge and community back to Woodhaven. As one that has been recognized as a key contributor to our cultural heritage and economy, being on the Historic Business Registry is evidence that it has been able to succeed.”

The New York State Historic Business Registry induction recognizes the value of small businesses which form the cultural identity of neighborhoods for a minimum of over 50 years. National Small Business Month celebrates the contributions of entrepreneurs, startups, and local businesses to the economy. 

Dexter Wines & Spirits was created by the Langon family in 1946 and has continued under the Hui family to be a quality wine house with the dedication to neighborly service. In a renovation, completed 2014, the space was refurbished but the community mission – to offer quality wines, spirits and education and keep service friendly and focused through handpicked varieties, tastings and personalized customer service remained unchanged.
