Ozone Park Small Business Owner Recognized for Entrepreneurship, Resilience, and Community Impact

Queens, NY (May 5, 2026) NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. proudly announces that his 2026 honoree, Jennifer Rodriguez, owner of Sweet Lil Sweets, was recognized during the New York State Senate Women of Distinction celebration in Albany on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

A proud Queens native, Ms. Rodriguez represents the spirit of perseverance and dedication that defines so many hardworking women across the district, particularly single mothers balancing family, ambition, and community commitment. As the owner of her small, independent café and dessert shop, Sweet Lil Sweets in Ozone Park, she has transformed a lifelong passion for baking into a thriving, community-centered business.

Ms. Rodriguez’s journey began years before opening her storefront. As a child, she dreamed of one day owning a shop like a beautiful pasta store she admired across the street from her current location. Though personal responsibilities, namely motherhood, temporarily shifted her focus, her dream never faded. After nearly a decade of baking from home, she decided to pursue her craft professionally following her divorce, channeling her talent into a new chapter of independence and purpose.

Through determination and hard work, Ms. Rodriguez built Sweet Lil Sweets into a beloved neighborhood destination known not only for its handcrafted desserts and coffee, but for its warm, welcoming atmosphere. Her business serves as a spot where residents gather, connect, and feel a sense of belonging. She thrives on supporting locals, collaborating with neighborhood organizations, and creating opportunities for others.

“Jennifer Rodriguez’s story is one of resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to both her family and her community,” said Addabbo. “As a small business owner and single mother, she embodies the strength and determination of the women we honor through the Women of Distinction program. Her success is measured by her business and, just as importantly, by the positive impact Jennifer has on the lives of those around her. I am proud to recognize her as my 2026 Women of Distinction honoree.”

The New York State Senate’s Women of Distinction program celebrates extraordinary women from across the state who have made significant contributions to their communities and serve as role models in their respective fields.

Ms. Rodriguez’s story stands as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs and working mothers, proving that with perseverance, passion, and heart, dreams can become reality.
