Addabbo Turns Paper Shredding Day into Identity Theft Protection and Veteran Support Effort
October 22, 2026
Over a thousand pounds of paper was shredded.
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. welcomed residents to his bi-annual paper shredding event at the Forest Park Bandshell on October 18, 2026, helping safeguard personal information while promoting environmental responsibility. The day also featured an opportunity to donate household goods and other items to the United War Veterans Council (UWVC), thereby supporting veterans in need.
“Protecting your identity shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet—or our neighbors,” Addabbo said. “This event makes it simple for residents to securely dispose of sensitive documents, and it also gives new purpose to gently used items by directing them to veterans who can truly use them.”
For four hours, the Forest Park Bandshell Parking Lot served as a drop-off location as residents brought unwanted papers and documents for shredding. When the event concluded, approximately 4,740 pounds of paper had been processed. In addition, UWVC received 1,246 pounds of fabric and 1,162 pounds of miscellaneous items.
Attendees were also able to watch their documents being shredded through a viewing window on the shredding truck.
The Senator thanked the volunteers from G-COP/104COP for their assistance in managing traffic throughout the event.
