New York – 143 elected officials across the State of New York, from Rochester to Long Island, have joined the effort to call on U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Congressional Democrats to publicly support the abolition of ICE and to leverage their positions to defund and dismantle the rogue federal agency. The growing effort is led by State Senator Julia Salazar, Assemblymember Diana Moreno, and NYC Councilmember Shahana Hanif, and follows the recent killings of two innocent immigrant fathers by ICE.
The statewide support, as indicated by the signatories in this letter, makes it clear that abolishing ICE is a view shared by a wide range of Democrats.
Contents of the letter and its updated list of signatories can be found attached.
