Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick Presents Empire Award to Inwood Country Club for 125 Years of Service

INWOOD, NY - Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick presented the New York State Senate Empire Award to Inwood Country Club in recognition of its 125th anniversary and longstanding contributions to the Five Towns community and local economy.
The Senator visited the club to present the award, along with a Senate proclamation commemorating the milestone, and to congratulate General Manager Burak Meyveci and Club President Lou Rusinowitz.

Founded in 1901 on a former potato farm, Inwood Country Club has grown from humble beginnings into one of Long Island’s most historic golf institutions. The club holds a distinguished place in golf history, having hosted the 1921 PGA Championship, won by legendary golfer Walter Hagen, and the 1923 U.S. Open, where Bobby Jones captured his first major championship. One of the founding members of the LPGA, Helen Hicks, was even a member of this historic club. Its iconic Georgian-style clubhouse, constructed between 1916 and 1917, remains a centerpiece of the property.

“For 125 years, Inwood Country Club has been a source of pride for the Five Towns, preserving its rich sporting legacy while serving as a gathering place for generations of members, families, and local organizations. It was my honor to present the Empire Award and a Senate proclamation recognizing the club’s remarkable history and lasting contributions to our community,” said Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick.

"Inwood Country Club wants to thank NYS Senator Patricia M. Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick for selecting Inwood to receive the NYS Senate 2026 Empire Award and the entire State Senate for its Proclamation recognizing Inwood's 125th Anniversary.  To have our place in the community recognized in this manner is a wonderful achievement, and we look forward to many more years as a vital part of the Inwood community.  We are very honored and thank the Senator for everything she does to support our district." said Lou Rusinowitz, President of Inwood Country Club.
