ALBANY, NY - Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick welcomed Gabriella Scheer to Albany to recognize her heroic, life-saving actions during a medical emergency at work.
In April of 2025, Scheer discovered her boss unconscious after suffering a heart attack. In a moment when many people may have frozen, Scheer immediately called 911 and began performing CPR until members of the Franklin Square & Munson Fire Department arrived. Because of her quick thinking and composure, a pulse was restored before her boss arrived at the hospital.
“Gabriella Scheer showed extraordinary courage in a moment that truly mattered. When faced with an emergency, she stayed calm, took action, and helped save a life,” said Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick. “Her quick thinking and willingness to step forward are an example to all of us, and I was proud to welcome her to Albany and recognize her in the Senate Chamber.”
Earlier this year, Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick awarded Scheer the New York State Senate Liberty Medal in recognition of her heroic actions. The Liberty Medal is the highest honor that can be bestowed by a State Senator and is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional courage, service, or sacrifice.
Scheer’s courage also reflects her family’s legacy of service. She is one of two daughters of George and Fara Scheer. Her father, George, served for 15 years with the FDNY at Engine 249 and nearly three decades with the Malverne Fire Department.
“Gabriella’s actions reflect the very best of our community,” Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick added. “She helped save a life, set a powerful example, and showed the kind of courage and character that deserve to be recognized. I am also grateful to the members of the Franklin Square & Munson Fire Department for their swift response and life-saving work.”
