STATEMENT FROM SENATOR CANZONERI-FITZPATRICK
Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick
May 16, 2026
Long Island commuters are paying the price for failed gubernatorial leadership.
Governor Hochul had ample warning that a Long Island Rail Road strike was possible, yet no action was taken to prevent it. Tens of thousands of Long Islanders are now scrambling to get to work, school, medical appointments, and other essential destinations.
After more than three decades without a strike, there is no excuse for allowing negotiations to reach this point.
I urge all parties to return to the table immediately and reach a fair agreement that restores service as quickly as possible.
