Senator Steve Rhoads Hosts Successful “Supercharging Small Businesses with AI” Workshop, Empowering Local Entrepreneurs

Supercharging Small Businesses with AI

On  March 19, Senator Steve Rhoads, a fierce advocate in Albany for small businesses, recently hosted an engaging workshop titled “Supercharging Small Businesses with AI.” The event brought together local entrepreneurs, business owners, and community leaders for an evening centered on innovation, efficiency, and growth.

Held at the East Meadow Fire Department Headquarters, the workshop was presented in partnership with the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce, the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs, and the Long Island Small Business Development Center.

The event drew a strong turnout, with small business owners eager to explore how artificial intelligence can help them operate more efficiently and stay competitive in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace. Attendees received hands-on guidance on using AI to streamline administrative tasks, strengthen marketing strategies, enhance financial analysis, and save valuable time. They also learned how to craft effective prompts for better results, safeguard sensitive data through responsible AI use, implement AI-driven marketing and SEO strategies, plan social media content in minutes, create compelling visuals, and develop standard operating procedures with AI support.

“This workshop was about giving our small businesses real tools they can use right away,” said Senator Rhoads. “The response from the community was incredibly positive. Whether business owners are just getting their feet wet with AI or have fully embraced AI technology, this program offered something for everyone—from practical tips for beginners to advanced strategies for those already integrating AI into their operations. It was rewarding to see people leave with actionable skills they can implement immediately to grow their businesses.”

Participants engaged in interactive demonstrations and left with strategies they could immediately implement to strengthen their operations and expand their reach. Many attendees highlighted the value of learning how to integrate AI into everyday business functions without needing advanced technical expertise.

“AI is no longer a luxury for small businesses—it’s a powerful, accessible tool that helps owners save time, make stronger decisions, and stay competitive in a rapidly changing market. The goal of the SBDC, and of the Supercharging Small Business program, is to empower entrepreneurs with the knowledge and support they need to confidently embrace these technologies and use them to grow,” said Brandon DeFeo, Business Advisor at Long Island SBDC hosted by Farmingdale State College.

“The Chamber extends its sincere appreciation for this tremendous AI training sponsored by Senator Steve Rhoads and led by Brandon from the SBDC, with valuable insights from Lionel Chitty of the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs. We commend the Senator’s forward-thinking commitment and action in bringing a clearer understanding of emerging artificial intelligence technologies to our local businesses—an effort that is both timely and impactful. Members of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce, alongside three other chambers, gained valuable knowledge in AI search capabilities, practical applications, and business analysis. This program provided meaningful, hands-on learning that will help our business community stay competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape while empowering them to operate more efficiently and make smarter, said Ross Schiller, President of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce.

The event also provided an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to network, share ideas, and connect with regional business support organizations committed to helping them thrive.

Senator Rhoads remains committed to supporting small businesses by delivering resources, education, and opportunities that foster long-term economic growth across the community.
