Summer Trunk-or-Treat Brings Community Together for an Evening of Family Fun
New York State Senator Steve Rhoads partnered with Nassau County Legislator Kayla Knight on August 17 to host a Summer Fun Trunk-or-Treat and collection drive benefiting the Family and Children’s Association (FCA).

Spearheaded by Senator Rhoads’ interns Emma Stein and Lauren Gomez-Nieto, the event brought local families together for an evening of fun, community spirit, and giving back. With support from the Wantagh Lions Club, children visited creatively decorated vehicles to collect candy while families participated in a collection drive for FCA.

Community members generously donated essential items to support FCA’s programs and services, which provide resources and assistance to children, families, and individuals throughout Nassau County. The donated supplies will help FCA continue its work strengthening families, promoting healthy communities, and helping individuals achieve greater stability and independence.

“Events like this are what community is all about: bringing families together, creating a fun experience for our children, and finding ways to help our neighbors who need a helping hand,” said Senator Steve Rhoads. “I’m proud of Emma and Lauren for spearheading this event and grateful to Legislator Knight, the Wantagh Lions Club, and everyone who donated to FCA. Their generosity will make a meaningful difference for local families and individuals.”

The Summer Fun Trunk-or-Treat reflects Senator Rhoads’ continued efforts to connect residents with opportunities to support local organizations and give back to the community. The event also highlighted the impact that can be made when elected officials, community organizations, volunteers, and residents work together toward a common cause.
