New York State Senator Steve Rhoads and Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker will host two free memory screening events for residents in October, presented in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center.

The free memory screenings will be held on Wednesday, October 7, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Bethpage Public Library, 47 Powell Avenue, Bethpage, and on Wednesday, October 28, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hicksville Public Library, 169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville.

The screenings provide residents with an opportunity to take a proactive step in caring for their brain health. Memory screenings are simple, quick and noninvasive “healthy brain checkups” that assess memory and other thinking skills through a brief series of questions and/or tasks. While a screening does not diagnose any particular illness, it can indicate whether an individual should speak with their physician about additional testing. Early identification of potential memory concerns can give individuals and their families an opportunity to address underlying conditions and connect with helpful information and resources.

“I encourage everyone to take a proactive step when it comes to their health and the health of their loved ones,” said Senator Steve Rhoads. “Just as we regularly get screenings for other parts of our bodies, it’s important to give our brains a checkup, too. We welcome everyone in our community to take advantage of this free service, ask questions, and take an important proactive step toward protecting their health and planning for the future.”
